why i paint the gays
“I paint Flowers so they will not die” - Frida Kahlo painter, fighter, queer icon
being a lesbian myself and having a fascination with painting, art history, and Bridgerton, it’s impossible to not notice how little we are represented in historical media. in the niche community of live painters we are also overlooked an awful lot. i believe this is due to the sensitivity in which most queer couples feel they have to handle their unions with, before and especially ever since the Supreme Court ruled against us in Masterpiece Cakeshop vs. Colorado Civil Rights Commission.
it seems like a totally queer exclusive extra step to find vendors that align with your queerness, understand your chosen family, and will embrace you with open arms. Being an artist in “someone will remember us: a lesbian exhibition”, gave me the motivation to paint queer people so we are remembered. I look forward to giving the gift of timelessness to you, something that not many before us were given the chance to have.

hello! my name is mandy strobel and i am a trained fine artist based in boston, massachusetts. i have many years of experience painting and working with community based organizations. i am motivated, due to this experience, to create a live painting experience that feels timeless, inspiring, and true to who my clients are! it’s important to not only create something beautiful, but also become immersed in the type of experience that you want to have or convey at your upcoming event
